About 6 years ago, a group of friends decided to have an annual cycle tour, just for kicks ….. and a bit of training too. Club 200 was born…
Each year has seen them ride within RSA borders but this year they decided to stretch their wings further a field to neighbouring Namibia. Dirt roads, temp’s averaging in the 40°C’s+, dust storms and wild animals…. challenges worthy for this group of nutty riders! At least the local Himba thought so….
Starting on the Northern Namibian border at Ruacana, the route would see them riding an average of 150km’s/day, through to Skeleton Coast town of Henties Bay, about 850km’s away.
In James Parkin’s words…
"The heat, one or two significant crashes, the distances, and in some places the conditions of the road made it very tough. The surprising thing is that in the weeks after the Tour the tough parts of the Tour are forgotten and everybody recalls the Camaraderie, the incredible scenery, and the sheer joy of just riding without the normal tensions of every day life…"
Enervit was happy to help out with G Sport (energy drink) and a couple of gels each day. Of course, the tour would have been harder without it!
We are looking forward to next year’s tour and wait with bated breath to see where in deep dark Africa Club 200 takes Enervit…
